The Malagueña breed of goat, also known as Chivo Lechal Malagueño, is one of the jewels of Spanish cattle breeding, originating from the province of Malaga in Andalusia. This animal is distinguished by its adaptability and resilience, able to thrive in the harsh terrain of the Malaga mountains. With a predominantly brown coat, although patches of different colours can be found, these goats are prized for both their meat and their milk.

The meat of the Chivo Lechal Malagueño is highly valued in gastronomy, known for its smooth texture and delicate flavour, characteristics that are due to the natural feed and the open-air rearing method practised by the region’s livestock farmers. The milk of the Malagueña goat, on the other hand, is the basis for the production of renowned artisan cheeses, appreciated both nationally and internationally.

The Malagueña breed is not only a fundamental pillar of the rural economy of its region of origin, but also forms part of Spain’s cultural and gastronomic heritage. Its preservation and promotion are essential to maintain biodiversity and to continue offering high quality products that satisfy the most demanding palates.
